poem by
REESE COLE
I take the first glimpse
of the tiny, unfamiliar creature,
cradled in my arms,
that is now a part of everyday life.
My smile, reaching lengths
it never has before as
a different kind of joy consumes me.
There is an instant connection,
like she is the missing piece to my life that fit
so easily.
She completes us.
The amount of admiration I feel
for a being that stares up at me, blankly,
with large blue eyes, is unfathomable.
She is nothing but cries and sleeps,
yet, I adore her.
I never want to let go
of the sweet little human
I get to call my sister.
She’s like a sunflower,
trying to find the light daily.
Watching her grow
into someone so full of life,
is the most incredible thing.
It upsets me
that she will never understand
how she cured me.
